Workshop Description

This African drumming workshop offers a true taste of traditional drumming
from the heart of West Africa.
Sayon Camara was "village born" into the djembé and dunun drumming tradition of the Malinké people.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Different rhythms will be taught in each class. Each class will be a complete
self contained lesson. Both djembé and dununs drums will be taught in all classes.
Sayon's Biograophy
Sayon was born in the village of Kouya Sidia in central Guinea, West Africa. At the age of seven his father, an accomplished djembé player, gave him a djembé. This altered the course of his life and his hands have not left the djembé since.
After drumming in his village for 31 years while cultivating rice and working for a brief period in the diamond mines, Sayon left the village as a master djembéfola (djembé player) to work in Conakry (the capital of Guinea) with the one of the world’s foremost djembé masters,
Famoudou Konate.
For the next ten years, Sayon worked intensively with Famoudou Konate, teaching at his workshops, and playing at his concerts and on his CDs. This lead to Sayon giving his own workshops for people, in Guinea, Japan and North America.
Because of Sayon's open nature, you will find his musical performances and teaching to be infused with the gentle, energizing, warmth and joy.
There are two workshop payment options. Pay for the entire workshop…
